Apple puts M6 in 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac at steady prices
Apple refreshed the base 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with M6, holding $1,999 and $1,499 starting prices while adding cores, Wi-Fi 7, and stronger on-device AI.

Apple on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, moved its M6 system-on-a-chip into the base 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac.12
The 14-inch MacBook Pro steps up from the 2025 M5. M6 brings a 12-core CPU in a 2+4+6 layout—two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores—plus a 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in each core and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. A dual 16-core Neural Engine (Apple’s dedicated on-device AI block) sits alongside. That is two more CPU cores and two more GPU cores than the prior 10-core M5, and the Neural Engine doubles from a single 16-core unit.34
Think of that CPU mix as a three-station workshop: super cores for precision single-thread jobs, performance cores for heavy multi-thread lifts, and efficiency cores for the steady background load. Unified memory (the shared pool CPU and GPU draw from) starts at 16 GB and configures to 24 GB or 32 GB. Here is the interesting part: only the 24 GB and 32 GB options reach the full 170 GB/s memory bandwidth; the base 16 GB stays at 153 GB/s.34 Storage opens at 1 TB, with 2 TB and 4 TB options. The laptop also gains Apple’s N1 wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Bluetooth 6.32
Apple positions the chip as a practical speed bump for creators and AI work: up to 30 percent faster graphics and up to 25 percent faster AI workloads versus M5, and up to 13 times the LLM prompt-processing speed of an M1 MacBook Pro. Battery life is listed at up to 24 hours. The chassis, Liquid Retina XDR display (nano-texture optional), ports—including three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, MagSafe 3, SDXC, and a headphone jack—and 12-megapixel Center Stage camera stay put. Colors remain space black and silver. The starting price holds at $1,999.12
The iMac jumps from its 2024 M4 refresh straight to M6. The $1,499 base model uses a cut-down chip: 10-core CPU (2+3+5) and 10-core GPU, still with the dual 16-core Neural Engine. The $1,699 step-up gets the full 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, four Thunderbolt 4 ports instead of two, and 2.5 Gbps Ethernet. Both start with 16 GB unified memory; Apple does not split bandwidth claims on the desktop, so even the 16 GB config is described at 170 GB/s. Base storage is 256 GB SSD, with higher options available. The 24-inch 4.5K Retina design and seven colors are unchanged, with a nano-texture display option. Apple says on-device AI performance reaches up to five times that of the M4 iMac.34
M6 itself first appeared in the Mac mini; Apple calls it the company’s first 2-nanometer chip.54 Pre-orders open Wednesday, October 28, with availability Friday, November 6.31
Our read: For anyone eyeing the entry 14-inch Pro or the all-in-one, this is a cores-and-radios refresh at last year’s dollars—more GPU horsepower and a doubled Neural Engine for local AI, without a redesign tax. What it means for you is simpler checkout math and a clearer upgrade path if you still sit on M1 or M4 silicon; just watch whether that 16 GB bandwidth cap on the laptop shows up in your real workloads.6
