PlayStation 5 has shipped 97.9 million units worldwide, Sony said in financial results for the three months ended September 30, 2026. The figure is hot off the wire and plain as a balance sheet.1

In that quarter the company shipped 2.6 million PlayStation 5 consoles, 0.9 million fewer than in the same period of the previous fiscal year.1

Software sales rose. PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined sold 88.2 million units in the three months, up 7.9 million from a year earlier. First-party titles accounted for 8.2 million of those units, up 1.9 million. Full-game digital downloads made up 78 percent of software sales, six percentage points higher than the same period the prior year.1

PlayStation Network reached 127 million monthly active users as of September 30, 2026, an increase of eight million from the year-ago level.1

Marvel’s Wolverine has sold 2.4 million units as of November 4, 2026.1

Sony raised PlayStation 5 prices globally earlier in 2026, pointing to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” In the United States the standard model moved to $649.99 and the digital edition to $599.99, each up $100, while the PS5 Pro rose $150 to $899.99. Parallel increases took effect in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan, with further price rises in South Korea and Southeast Asia from May 1, 2026.2

Quarterly hardware shipments remained in the millions after those changes. Software unit volume and monthly network users both increased while console shipments declined from the prior-year quarter.

Our read: A 97.9 million shipment total places the PS5 deep into its generation with a wide footprint. The latest quarter’s drop in console volume landed next to gains in software sales and active network users, a mix common once hardware is widely established. Wolverine’s 2.4 million units by November 4 is a clear sales figure in the same results, without a split of launch timing or weekly pace here. What to watch next is whether the holiday quarter steadies hardware shipments and whether digital share and monthly users keep rising. A sharper hardware decline or stalled software growth would point the other way. These results do not include holiday targets or any next-console schedule.
