Phantom Blade Zero sells 4 million copies in three days, tops Steam launches of 2026

Hot off the wire: Phantom Blade Zero has sold more than 4 million copies in its first 72 hours on sale, developer S-Game announced on X. 1 The studio’s message was short and grateful: thanks “from the bottom of our hearts” for the love and support. 2

The Steam numbers back it up. Concurrent players climbed past 431,000 at launch and kept rising into the weekend, settling at a peak of 833,921 on SteamDB. 1 GamesRadar’s headline rounds the peak to 820,000; the SteamDB figure is the more precise one. 3 That makes it Steam’s biggest launch of the year so far, ahead of Forza Horizon 6 and well clear of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, The Blood of Dawnwalker and Ace Combat 8. 1

One caution before anyone starts counting Steam receipts. The 4 million figure covers every storefront: Steam, PlayStation 5, and Tencent’s China-only WeGame PC launcher. 1 S-Game gave no platform-by-platform split. The game also topped Steam’s revenue chart on day one, ahead of Modern Warfare 4, Aion 2 and Probably Stolen. 2

None of this arrived out of the blue. An analyst estimate last week put prelaunch sales above 1 million copies, with nearly two thirds of them from China, Taiwan or Hong Kong. 2 We reported that estimate earlier: Phantom Blade Zero estimated at 1 million prelaunch sales, analyst says. The launch itself was set after a delay announced in June, which moved the date from September 9 to October 29. 4

The ceiling is still higher. Black Myth: Wukong, another Chinese-developed action game, peaked at 2,415,714 concurrent players on Steam at launch and is estimated at 30 million copies sold since. 1 IGN puts its first three days at 10 million sales. 2 Phantom Blade Zero is not in that class yet.

Critics are warm but not unanimous. IGN scored it 9/10. 2 Eurogamer praised the animation and environments, and the flow of combat when it works, but marked down the narrative and the consistency, singling out boss fights where the power fades. 1

Our read: Four million in three days, with a tally that mixes platforms and a Chinese storefront, is a strong start and a clean win over this year’s other Steam launches. It is not Wukong, and the studio has not said how much of the total came from Steam. Whether the player count holds past launch weekend is the number to watch. Until S-Game publishes a breakdown, treat the headline total as exactly that.

A studio statement and a chart beat a rumor every time, pal. This one has both.
