Comcast’s state WARN filings now list 634 permanent layoffs in Philadelphia, 159 in Washington, 119 in New Jersey and 82 in California, with separations set to begin Dec. 31, 2026 and stretch into early 2027.1

The company still has not published a full nationwide headcount for the restructuring. The four-state total already approaches 1,000 jobs by year-end and the first part of 2027.1

Washington’s Oct. 29 notice covers 159 people at regional offices in Bellingham, Bremerton, Everett, Olympia, Puyallup, Redmond, Seattle, Spokane and Vancouver. The roles sit in engineering, finance and construction. About 25% of the Washington cuts are construction jobs; Comcast says those exits will not change the pace of network builds.12

Philadelphia is the largest single block: 634 jobs at the Arch Street and JFK Boulevard offices, effective at year-end. Comcast employs about 8,000 people in the city and says it is adding more than 500 positions there. A person familiar with the situation put the net loss in Philadelphia at about 100 jobs.13

New Jersey’s filing lists 119 jobs in counties including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Mercer and Monmouth, with an effective date of Jan. 27, 2027. California’s notice eliminates 82 jobs.13

Comcast says it is posting more than 1,100 new positions across the company and will consider affected workers for them, including more than 500 openings in Philadelphia. Some employees may be asked to stay into 2027, possibly through March, “where necessary to ensure business continuity.” Workers who do not move into other roles are entitled to severance; the company says none of these workers belong to a union.13

Executives describe the cuts as part of a redesign of the cable, broadband and wireless business—the connectivity unit that remains after the planned NBCUniversal spinoff—alongside fewer management layers and wider use of AI agents in customer service. The company expects a roughly $1 billion fourth-quarter charge tied to the plan. Connectivity-and-platforms revenue fell about 2.6% to nearly $19.7 billion last quarter, and Comcast lost 144,000 domestic residential broadband customers in the period.32

Who this is for: workers watching WARN notices in those four states, and broadband customers tracking how the connectivity side is being rebuilt before the media spinoff.

Our read: The state numbers are the first hard map of a restructuring Comcast has not totaled companywide. Hiring offsets and staggered end dates change the Philadelphia math more than the Washington or New Jersey lists; the construction share in Washington comes with an explicit line that builds keep moving. Asterisk count: three—the missing national tally, thin role detail outside Washington, and “business continuity” dates that push some exits into 2027. The next WARN rounds and whether the 1,100 openings actually absorb people from these lists are the figures that still matter.
