Specimen of the week: a room full of crows, perched in an abandoned office building. It is a small, strange detail, and it is the one that made me stop scrolling on Gag Order, a co-op horror shooter from Raycast Games. 1
Here is what it is. You play a member of a research lab’s Guardian Unit, answering a distress call that comes from “one of the core parts of the complex.” 1 When you arrive, the place is rotten, and you quickly learn you are not equipped for what is waiting. 1 What is waiting is a pack of tentacle-covered cephalopod creatures, and surviving them is the job. 1
The plain facts: it is a first-person shooter in the horror genre, listed for PC, and the developer is Raycast Games. 1 It is built for co-op rather than solo play, and the sources say it is due out by the end of 2026. 12 A price has not been announced.
What sets it apart is the structure. The first phase of a run apparently has the creatures acting as invincible, though your guns can at least fend them off. 1 The second phase is described as a “fast paced team-bossight” where you finally try to take them down. 1 How you get from one phase to the other is not yet clear, and I am curious how that handoff will feel.
The tone reads like a nod to 2000s shooters with a few contemporary mechanical ideas, plus light SCP-style unease. 1 A game that makes you helpless first and dangerous second is a neat way to build dread.
Field note: it does not read as friendly co-op chaos. It reads as grim, closer in lineage to Lethal Company. 1
Our read: Gag Order looks like a team-up horror game that wants you scared before it lets you fight back. The release window is tight, so a demo or more footage soon would help. For now, a Steam wishlist is the way to follow it. 1
Worth knowing: it targets PC and is due by the end of 2026; wishlisting on Steam is the way to keep tabs on it. 1
