Zelda producer Aonuma 'nervous' as Ocarina of Time remake nears November 5 launch
Eiji Aonuma says he can't stop thinking about how players will take the Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time, which arrives November 5 at $59.99 digital, $69.99 physical.

Nintendo Switch 2 is days away from its biggest Zelda swing yet, and the man running the franchise says he is sweating it. Producer Eiji Aonuma told AFP during a Paris visit that he is “all nervous” about releasing the Ocarina of Time remake because he doesn’t know how it will turn out. 12
The game launches Thursday, November 5, as an exclusive on Nintendo Switch 2. 34 Nintendo confirmed the date during its Zelda 40th anniversary stream in September, along with pricing: $59.99 for a digital copy and $69.99 for a physical one. 34
What changed: this is not a routine Zelda release for Aonuma. Most games in the series are original works, but this one remakes a title many people rank among the best ever made. 1 He also has history with it. The original was the first project he worked on with Shigeru Miyamoto. 12
He describes the remake as a “faithful interpretation using modern technologies.” 3 That tracks with what Nintendo has shown: overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, a reworked camera with Right Stick control, and a new button for jumping. 34 There are fresh tools too. “Threads of Time” shows your story progress and next objective, and you can hum a learned song into the console’s built-in microphone to have Link play it on his ocarina. 34
Part of the freshness came from the younger staff. Aonuma says some members of his team had never played the original, and he credits them with working out how to adapt it so it is fun once the controller is in your hands. 2
One outlet’s early hands-on suggests he may be worrying for nothing. IGN says the remake turned out to be more different than a veteran of the original might expect, and that its preview ranks as the site’s second-highest-performing of the year, with over 1.8 million views on its YouTube channel. 1 Preorders are open, and at least one fan on X posted that they are ready to relive the game “in a new way.” 5
For anyone who already owns a Switch 2, the ask is simple: $59.99 to $69.99 depending on format, with the first physical print run getting special textured-foil packaging while supplies last. 4 Two ocarinas, a playable one and an electric one from HORI, are due later this year. 4
Our read: a producer this seasoned admitting to pre-launch jitters is a good sign, not a bad one. It tells you the team treated the original with respect, and the early attention suggests players are leaning in. Standings check: Nintendo is putting a clear date and clear prices on the board, and for Switch 2 owners that is a clean opening drive. The final whistle comes November 5, when everyone finds out if Aonuma’s nerves were earned.
