What changed: PlayStation is reaching back to the late ’90s with the Prism Collection, a set of translucent DualSense controllers and matching PS5 console covers in Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray.12

Preorders open November 10, and the full release lands February 4, 2027.12 That is a wait of more than three months from today, so this is a lap to watch rather than a drop to chase this week.

Prices are set. The controllers carry a recommended price of $84.99 in the US (€84.99 / £74.99), and the console covers are $74.99 (€74.99 / £64.99).1 Japan gets ¥12,480 for the controller and ¥9,980 for the cover.2

Designers Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi describe the look. Cardoso says the team wanted the see-through trend of the late ’90s back “in a fresh, modern way” that suits the PS5’s industrial design.2 Aoyagi describes a high-gloss clear finish across the back of the controller and a metallic middle cover. He calls the colors an orange that turns rosy where the clear material overlaps, a deep hunter green that gains depth, and a cool storm gray.2

Preorders go through PlayStation Direct and select retailers.1

This is not Sony’s first color run of the generation. It has put out more than a dozen DualSense variants, plus limited editions tied to games like Astro Bot and Death Stranding.1 The most popular recent release was the 30th Anniversary collection, so retro design has a proven audience.1

If you already own a PS5, nothing here touches your hardware. The covers are the swap-in part, and the controller is a straight replacement for the one you have.

Our read: Sony keeps finding that nostalgia sells, and a clear shell is a cheap way to make an existing console feel new. The covers also let the PS5 body join the look, which the color-only controller runs never did. Expect the Graphite Gray to be the quiet pick and the orange to be the one people photograph.

What it costs you: $84.99 per controller, $74.99 per cover, and a patient wait until February 4, 2027.1
