Xbox and Bethesda locked in the full name for The Elder Scrolls VI on Tuesday, November 3: the sequel is The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel, revealed in Bethesda Game Studios’ 40th anniversary video along with a new logo.12
Todd Howard closed the studio look-back by noting that everyone keeps asking about the game, then said it was a “perfect time” to say what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called before a short teaser played.3
The clip leans on sand physics and a scroll pulled from the dunes, then puts the Sentinel name on screen. A line in the video, attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, frames a future lost and sands of time scattered by fate.1 A studio blurb with the video marks 40 years of Bethesda worlds and thanks players for the journey.1
That package is the first new trailer since the bare title card at E3 2018 — eight years, four months, and 23 days earlier, when Bethesda confirmed the sixth mainline game with almost no detail and no date.13
Sentinel is a major city in Hammerfell on Tamriel’s northwest coast by Iliac Bay. Coverage ties the setting to Hammerfell west of Cyrodiil and southwest of Skyrim, and reads the sand-and-scroll imagery as lining up with a recent report that the game would dig into Elder Scrolls history and the artifacts themselves.23
For anyone who already owns an Xbox Series X|S or a gaming PC — the platforms listed with the title — the change on the board is a subtitle, a logo, and fresh footage, not a ship window or a store listing to chase.12
A report last week had already pointed at a November look and the Sentinel name; Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had played a build on an August visit to Bethesda and had teased the subtitle with eight asterisks.12
No release date came with the anniversary video. In June 2026 Howard had indicated the RPG was still years away and too early for a full re-reveal; a name-and-teaser drop is what arrived instead.3 If more footage shows up soon, Eurogamer points at The Game Awards on December 10 as the likeliest stage, still unconfirmed.1 Whether Sentinel lands on PlayStation remains an open question in the same coverage.2
Our read: What changed is a formal subtitle, a logo, and the first new teaser in more than eight years, under review until a date joins them. Standings check: Xbox and Bethesda attached Sentinel to The Elder Scrolls VI for PC and Xbox Series X|S players and left the release date off the whiteboard — what it costs you is the same long wait, now with the name filled in.
