Canceled Paranormal Activity game lands free on Steam as archive

DarkStone Digital and DreadXP have released Brian Clarke’s shelved Paranormal Activity: Threshold today as Playable Archive, a free one-sitting horror short on Steam.

The canceled movie spinoff Paranormal Activity: Threshold is alive again today as Playable Archive, a free Steam release from DarkStone Digital developer Brian Clarke and publisher DreadXP.1

According to IGN, Paramount killed the original project earlier this year; Clarke, the mind behind The Mortuary Assistant, worked with DreadXP to polish what remained into a short found-footage horror piece players can finish in one go.1

The setup is pure night-time parlor drama: a young couple mid-renovation finds a strange object and pays the price, with rituals, symbols, shaky camera work, and an entity hovering just out of frame.1

Clarke wrote on Steam that burnout had him imagining the build would sit on a shelf forever until DreadXP floated releasing what he had. He adjusted the project and cleaned the edges. “I’m proud of what I am able to share,” he said, even as plenty stayed on the cutting-room floor.1

The Steam listing warns there is no save system, so lock the door and play through in a single sitting.1

Horror fans tracking the franchise still have a James Wan Paranormal Activity film due next year, but this free archive gives the game’s unfinished ghost a public curtain call now.1

IGN flagged the drop on X as the canceled title’s new lease on life, free on Steam today—an underdog resurrection worth the queue for anyone who collects short-form scares.2
