The Duskbloods delayed to 2027, leaving a hole in Switch 2's holiday slate

FromSoftware pushed its Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods out of 2026 and into 2027, citing final tweaks to game rules and balancing.

Hot off the wire: FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods will not ship this year. The studio announced Thursday, October 29, that the Switch 2 exclusive is moving to 2027. No new date came with it.1

The studio put it on its official account, saying development is at the “final adjustment stage” and apologizing to players who have been waiting.2 The stated reason is the August network test. Players showed strong interest in combat, strategic depth and player expression, and the studio wants time to tune the game rules and balancing before launch.2

Nobody in the press box is shocked. The game never carried a firm date, only a vague 2026 window, and a rumored September launch passed without a word from Nintendo.1 Silence since the playtests did the rest of the talking.3

The August test had its own trouble. The first session ended early after major connectivity problems, though later sessions went smoother.1 It also drew more applicants than Elden Ring Nightreign’s test did, which is no small number for a game that only runs on Switch 2.1 Demand is not the issue. Polish is.

That leaves a gap in Nintendo’s calendar. Readers weighing in on the news point to Ocarina of Time arriving November 5 and Switch Sports Resort already out as the holiday heavy lifters, with a couple of Switch 2 Editions rounding things out.3 That is reader chatter, not a Nintendo statement, but it matches the shape of the schedule: one fewer big first-party swing before the new year.

The studio chose to keep the project in the oven rather than rush a launch that stumbled in its test. Fans have been told to wait. They have been told nothing about how long.

Our read: A delay with no date is a delay I’ll believe in when I see a date in writing. Still, a studio spending extra months on balance for a PvP-heavy game beats one shipping it half-baked and patching in public. The network test showed the appetite. What FromSoftware does with the added time will decide whether 2027 looks smart or just late. I’ll be here when the calendar says something.
