What changed: No Man’s Sky is now on iPhone and iPad. Hello Games launched the mobile version on October 28, alongside Forsaken, a free Halloween-themed update that goes out to every platform the game is on.12
On Apple hardware, the game needs an iPhone 11 or newer, or a third-generation iPad Air or newer. The first stretch of the game is free to try on the App Store, and the full version is priced at $19.99.34 Ars Technica puts the file size under 5 GB, and Eurogamer lists it at 4 GB.42 Eurogamer says mobile players get custom touch controls.2
The port carries all 40-plus updates released so far, Forsaken included, from day one.32 It also supports game controllers and casting to a TV, and the iPad version adds mouse and keyboard.4
There are trade-offs, much like the Switch version. Building and exploring player-made planetary settlements is limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and later, and multiplayer is not supported on any iOS device.4 Hello Games has said it will support the iOS version based on how many people play it, which leaves the door open on future content.4
Forsaken itself sends players hunting rare haunted tech and biological horrors in derelict hulks, abandoned freighters and infested outposts. Enigmatic traders pay for those finds with biomechanical corvette modules, new cockpits, a larva tank helmet and a wriggling grub cannon multi-tool.32 It is the game’s fifth major update of the year.1
The update also adds postal missions that turn you into a galactic delivery driver, a radial menu for weapon selection, a minimal HUD mode and dozens of accessibility tweaks. A new seamless warping feature lets you lock onto a bright star and fly straight there without opening the galactic map.32 Eurogamer notes that Hello Games’ press material is vague on whether the cosmetic rewards are limited-time.2 PCGamesN, for its part, describes Forsaken as a trip to “the darker side of the universe” that also opens the door to iOS.5
For anyone already playing on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Mac or VR, Forsaken is listed as available today on those platforms at no charge.23 If you want the game on a phone as well, the $19.99 price is the one listed for the iOS version.4
This is also a long way from where the game started. Ars Technica frames the iPhone arrival as the end of a 10-year redemption arc, and says Hello Games spent three years on the port.4
Our read: Treat the free trial as the real pit stop here: you can see how the touch controls feel on your own phone before paying $19.99. The missing multiplayer and the iPhone 15 Pro cutoff for settlements are the compromises to weigh. Forsaken’s delivery missions and radial menu look built with a phone screen in mind, and the roughly 4 to 5 GB footprint is the number to check against your storage. Standings check: Hello Games takes the week with a free update on every platform and a free trial on iOS, no price hike on anyone who already owns the game. What to watch next is whether Hello Games keeps feeding mobile as the player base takes shape.
