What changed: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 goes live on November 6, adding new multiplayer maps and modes, a high-difficulty DMZ location, two Battle Pass weapons and a Warzone refresh. Activision’s PlayStation Blog post calls it the first free content update. 1

The stopwatch is already running, since the season arrives less than a week after the game’s launch. 2

Multiplayer at launch. Three new maps arrive on day one: Backstab, Canyon and a reimagined Shoot House set in snowy North Korea. 1 Destructoid notes Shoot House is a remaster. 2 Two modes come with them: Grind, where you collect dog tags and bank them for your team, and Drop Zone, where teams fight over one rotating objective while Killstreak packages drop in. 1

Mid-season adds two more maps, Ministry (an embassy battle) and Overflow (a factory and farmland), along with Counter Attack, a mode about detonating bombs at the enemy Comm Station while defending your own. 1 Destructoid also lists a Halloween limited-time mode, Possession, on October 29, Infected on October 30, and a Gauntlet 1v1 Gunfight limited-time mode. 2

DMZ. The headline is X01, a weapons facility described as previously undiscovered and now seized by enemy forces. 1 It is a maze of tunnels and shifting hazards, and the facility starts closing off extraction points, so squads have to finish required steps to get out. 1 Destructoid describes it as a high-difficulty endgame location with Ghost, from the campaign, as your Watcher. 2 New DMZ Orders, Threat Briefings against the biggest bosses, and Resupply Runs come with it. 1

Weapons and the Battle Pass. The Cronen Osprey assault rifle, a quick and reliable all-rounder, and the CSG-35 SMG, which has the highest fire rate in its class, both arrive in the Season 1 Battle Pass. 1 Destructoid places them at tiers 16 and 36 and adds two event rewards: the JAK-12 shotgun and the ZLR Talonhawk melee weapon. 2

The pass carries more than 100 unlockables on a linear 100-tier track, with a catch-up system that guarantees 50-plus rewards. If you fall behind on the premium pass, you are automatically brought up to the reward matching the current day of the season, up to day 50. 1 Neither source states a price for the pass or its premium tier.

Warzone and platforms. Two new Warzone maps, Hajin and Zodiac, arrive with the update, and a full roadmap is promised soon. 1 Season 1 runs on every platform the game supports: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. 2

Our read: Three launch maps, a fresh DMZ zone and two Battle Pass guns is a solid opening lap, and the catch-up system goes a long way toward answering the old complaint that buying in late means wasting the pass. The unanswered question is the one that matters at the till: the sources never state what the Battle Pass costs. Check that number before you commit.

What it costs you: the season content is described as free, but the pass and its premium rewards are a paid piece, and the price is not in the sources. 1
