Dune: Awakening's free Blood and Ice expansion lands in December, offline mode in November
Funcom's free Blood and Ice expansion for Dune: Awakening gets a December date, and a November offline mode lets PC, PS5 and Xbox players skip the internet.

What changed: Funcom’s free Blood and Ice expansion for Dune: Awakening, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, is set for December, and an offline mode arrives in November, meaning no internet connection needed to play.1
What it costs you: the expansion is free. The only spending is optional, through a new cosmetic store selling outfits, vehicle variants and base customization options.1
Blood and Ice adds the Polar Sink, a new survival map that flips the desert script. Instead of fending off heat, you hunt for ways to stay warm, and your desert gear won’t cut it, so expect to upgrade equipment and gather new resources.1 There are two biomes, the tundra and the ice cap. You start on the tundra, where rival families dislike anyone meddling with their operations, and the real prize is the ice cap’s ice, which cools your base equipment and speeds up production.1
Funcom pegs the expansion at roughly 35 more hours of new progression, plus new vehicle modules, augments and specialization traits, with future updates planned to bring players back to the Polar Sink.1
The offline mode is the quiet winner here. Rock Paper Shotgun flags it as a plus for preservation, and I agree it belongs on the scoreboard.1 Character copying, which lets you move a character from multiplayer servers to single-player, arrives in January alongside full cross-play.1
If you already own the game, you get a new map, a new gear loop and a way to play without a connection, all without paying for the expansion. The cosmetic store is the part some players may grumble about, but it is optional.1
Our read: My interpretation, not a fact from the source: an offline mode is the kind of move that gives a live game a better shot at staying playable if its servers ever go quiet, and that is worth cheering. Funcom is also giving existing players real content for free while keeping the paid stuff cosmetic. Standings check: Funcom takes the week, with a free expansion, an offline mode and cross-play on the calendar, and a cosmetic store that is the only thing worth a flag. Full-season grades wait until the final whistle in January.
